Recital Shirts
Here’s the link for this year’s recital shirt: https://www.customink.com/g/pbn0-00d2-4u9z
Shirts are free for all dancers participating in the show! All dancers will wear their shirt at the recital for the final group bow at the end of the show.
Just enter your dancer’s size into the form. If you have more than one dancer, please make sure you indicate which size is for which dancer in the notes.
If you do not enter a shirt size for your dancer(s) before the cutoff, May 15th, I will have to guess their size and I make no promises.
Picture Day
-
Saturday, June 6th
11:00 AM
Metamora Historical Society Old Town Hall: 26 E. High St, Dryden Rd, Metamora, MI 48455
-
Our picture day will be held at the Old Town Hall in downtown Metamora this year! As this is a historical building, we do need to be conscious of the various artifacts on the walls and be respectful: please make sure the kids are not touching anything they shouldn’t be.
There is a sizeable parking lot around the side/back of the building as well as street parking throughout downtown Metamora. If your dancer has multiple routines and you do not wish to stay in the Hall, there are two coffee shops just steps away!
The set up of the venue is essentially one large room that will have some tables and chairs available to us and only one small bathroom. For dancers with multiple routines and costume changes, if they are uncomfortable changing in front of others I recommend wearing a nude colored leotard underneath the costumes. You can get these through a dancewear store or online. For dancers with only one routine, feel free to change at home and arrive in costume if they’re uncomfortable with the communal changing area.

Hair and makeup will be the same for Picture Day, Dress Rehearsal, and the Recital. Makeup is the same for all dancers for all routines, but hair may vary.
Stage makeup is necessary for all performers in order for their facial features to stand out under the harsh stage lights. Without any makeup on, you cannot see their faces clearly or read any facial expressions. The purpose of the makeup is to highlight their features so that no matter where you sit in the audience, you can see them smile! Given the purpose of the makeup, it should look different from “everyday” makeup. I’ve always used the rule of “if you don’t look like a clown up close, you don’t have a face on stage.”
For Ruby level (Friday dancers), how much makeup your dancer wears is up to you. They are welcome to do the full face if you’re comfortable with it, but they only need lipstick, a little blush, and mascara if you can get it on them. I have color examples and product recommendations below. All links are from last year’s email, so if any do not work please let me know.
Any links provided are just examples, you do not need to buy those specific products. All links are from ulta.com, but you can easily find what you’ll need at a drugstore as well. Colors will look slightly different on each dancer even if they are wearing the exact same product, and that’s ok. Don’t stress too much about matching any exact color or product; the goal is to make their features visible and to have a similar look.
All other dancers should have full stage makeup:
Foundation is recommended, but not required
Pink blush
Black mascara
Black eyeliner
Silver eyeshadow: individual stick palette
Berry lipstick: liquid 1 liquid 2 traditional 1 traditional 2 pencil
If you need help with figuring out what will work best for your dancer, please reach out and I will help you to the best of my ability.

Dancers should arrive with their hair and makeup done. For Picture Day, I understand if it’s easier to arrive in costume due to the nature changing area, but I generally do not recommend that dancers travel in costume. Seatbelts/car seats/etc. can snag costumes and you run a higher risk of getting makeup on the costume, especially if they fall asleep in the car. Any dirt/etc. on the outside of the car can also very easily transfer to the costume. They should wear a top that buttons up, zips up, or has a larger head opening so that they do not disturb their hair or makeup when they change.
Dancers should not eat while in costume unless they have something over top of it such as a jacket, coverup, blanket, etc.
Even though all hair and makeup should be done prior to arrival please bring some supplies with you in case touch-ups are needed. Unused hair supplies like hair ties and bobby pins can be shared, but I advise against sharing any used hair supplies or makeup.
Before you leave the house, make sure your dancer has any and all costume pieces, tights, and shoes for each routine they are in. All costumes, accessories, and new tights will be in the costume bags when they are sent home.
If you would like individual photos taken of your dancer or sibling/friend photos, please let me know so I can put it on the list. If your dancer has more than one routine, make sure you tell me which one(s) you want individuals for.
Do not stand too close to the photo area and do not take pictures with your phone or a camera. We need the dancers to all be looking at the photographer’s camera so please do not distract them by being too close or trying to direct them from the side. The photographers and I know what we are doing, so please trust us!

Costumes, tights, shoes, hair style, and hair pieces are required for both Dress Rehearsal and Recital. Makeup is required for Recital, and while it’s not required for Dress Rehearsal, it is highly recommended.
No nail polish, jewelry, or accessories outside of costume pieces should be worn.
All hair and makeup is the same for Picture Day, Dress Rehearsal, and Recital.

Dancers should not eat while in costume unless they have something over top of it such as a jacket, coverup, blanket, etc.
I highly recommend bringing some small non-messy snacks, plenty of water, and an activity like a book, coloring book (avoid markers, please), or iPad/tablet to keep your dancer occupied during any down time.
Even though all hair and makeup should be done prior to arrival for Dress Rehearsal and Recital, please bring some supplies with you in case touch-ups are needed. Unused hair supplies like hair ties and bobby pins can be shared, but I would advise against sharing any used hair supplies or makeup.

For Dress Rehearsal and Recital at Davison High School, all dancers will be in one dressing room. The dressing room is separated into two main segments; a locker-room-style area with space to hang costumes and a “makeup room” with counters and lighted mirrors, and there is a bathroom as well. The dressing room and immediate surrounding area is female ONLY for both the rehearsal and the show. Dads/grandpas/brothers/etc. are welcome to drop dancers off at the dressing room door but are not permitted inside. They should also not wait around too close to the dressing room door.
Dancers and those who will be helping them change should stay in the dressing room for the duration of Dress Rehearsal. Please stay out of the auditorium during Dress Rehearsal as it can be distracting for the dancers to have the doors opening and people talking in the auditorium. I recommend bringing things to keep your dancer occupied such as books, coloring books (avoid markers, please), small devices, etc. to keep the environment calm and allow us to easily find all the dancers for each routine.

The only exception to this rule is Ruby level dancers, but they must be backstage two numbers before they perform and two numbers before the final bow. The dressing room area has a screen with a live feed of the show, so the dancers will still be able to watch the entire show without being in the audience.
